Bangladesh Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan MP said that Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar will be developed as modern, objective and acceptable mass media.
At the same time, the government is determined to ensure a free and safe working environment for journalists. He said these things while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion meeting on the significance of Ramadan and Iftar party organized by Gourandi Press Club at Gourandi Upazila Parishad Auditorium in Barisal on Thursday (March 19).
The minister said that holy Ramadan teaches self-purification, moderation and humanity. If this education is incorporated in the life of individuals and society, it is possible to build a just and compassionate society.
He also said that the role of independent, responsible and objective media in building a democratic state is immense.
Therefore, journalists should come forward for the welfare of the country and nation by providing honest and impartial news. Senior journalist Jahurul Islam Zahir, president of Gournadi Press Club and former chairman of BRDB, presided over the event.
In the president’s speech, he said, besides fulfilling professional duties, such organization plays an important role in awakening human values.
He urged everyone to work unitedly for the overall development of the society. Gournadi Upazila Executive Officer Md Ibrahim, Gournadi Model Police Station OC Tariq Hasan Russell, OC (Investigation) Mahbubur Rahman, Highway Police Station OC Shamim Sheikh, Barisal Press Club President Principal Amirul Islam Khosru, District BNP Member Secretary Mizanur Rahman Khan Mukul and leaders of various political, social and professional organizations were present as special guests.
Also, leaders of various press clubs of Gournadi, Uzirpur and Agailjhara upazilas, journalists, dignitaries and dignitaries participated in the event.
