Bogra 13 March 2026:

Our job will be to ensure complete freedom of the media, said Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan. The information minister said this at a major function of financial grants among journalists of seven districts of Rajshahi division and scholarships among talented children of journalist families at a local convention center in Bogra today.

Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Rumon was present on the occasion. In his speech, the Information Minister said that the media ensures the extent to which the state will work for the welfare of the people, so the freedom of the media is not a matter of mercy but it is our responsibility to ensure it. Zahir Uddin Swapan said, media is an inevitable part of modern civilization.

Civilization cannot be practiced without mass media. He urged the media to come forward to ensure accountability in the state and society.

He said that in a society where there is no accountability, fallen, hated and humiliated statesmen like Sheikh Hasina are created.

The information minister said, we want to create a culture of accountability by strengthening the media. Information Minister highlighted the various steps taken by Prime Minister Tariq Rahman including distribution of family card, allowance of imam-muazzin, waiver of agricultural loan as part of implementation of government’s election promise.

Managing Director of Journalist Welfare Trust Bachir Jamal, President and General Secretary of Bogra Press Club and representatives of various media were present in the event.
