This incident marks a highly significant assault on a city of great strategic importance.
Dimona essentially serves as the center of Israel’s nuclear program located in the Negev Desert, in the southern part of the country. It appears that a single ballistic missile successfully breached its defenses, resulting in a direct hit.
Additionally, we have received reports of multiple other impacts occurring around the city. The casualty count has now exceeded 50, with the majority requiring hospitalization, including a 12-year-old boy who is reported to be in critical condition due to shrapnel wounds.
The Iranian authorities claim this attack was a response to the assault on their Natanz nuclear facility. Israel has denied involvement in that incident, attributing it to American forces. However, Israel has acknowledged responsibility for other recent strikes, including one targeting what they describe as a nuclear weapons research facility at a university in Tehran.
Throughout Saturday, Dimona has faced a series of attacks.
In total, there have been seven air raid alerts in the city as missiles attempted to penetrate its defenses. Given the strategic significance of this location and Israel’s reputation for intercepting a high percentage of incoming missiles, an investigation will be launched to determine how this missile managed to breach its defenses.
