BANGLADESH – CHINA : The possibility of signing 17 agreements and understandings during the visit of Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to China, Teesta is in discussion

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will visit China from June 22 to 26. During the Prime Minister’s visit, 13 MoUs, two agreements, an action plan and a note on protocols are expected to be signed between the two countries. Apart from this, the meeting of the top leaders will discuss the Teesta Master Plan.

And Dhaka is talking about the consideration of joining the four global initiatives of Chinese President Xi Jinping. However, Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam said to wait until the end of the visit to know whether Bangladesh is joining any of these four initiatives.

The Foreign Secretary said these things at a press conference organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday (June 20).

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will arrive in China on a five-day visit from Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, on Monday night. This will be Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s first visit to China. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will hold a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping during his visit to Beijing. He will hold a bilateral meeting with Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang.

As many as 17 agreements and memorandums of understanding will be signed during the Prime Minister’s upcoming visit to China. In this context, the Foreign Secretary said, we are expecting that 15 to 17 MoUs will be signed. Among them, 13 MoUs, two agreements, an action plan and protocol notes are to be signed.

The Foreign Secretary said that there will be extensive discussions on river management during the Prime Minister’s visit. Stating that there is an issue of Teesta Master Plan, Asad Alam Siam said that coordinated river management is a matter of discussion. I think that discussion is very broad and extended. Teesta will be discussed, we will raise. In addition, discussion on other river management will be expanded.

The Foreign Secretary also said that although the Teesta Master Plan was discussed, no MoU will be signed during the visit.

According to diplomatic sources in Dhaka-Beijing, during this visit, the announcement of Bangladesh’s participation in GDI or Global Development Initiative, one of the four recent foreign policy initiatives of the Chinese President, is expected to come.

In this context, the Foreign Secretary said that President Xi Jinping has four global initiatives. We are very much considering adding to those four global initiatives. We will be able to tell after the visit whether they are joining or not. But we can say for sure that we welcome these four initiatives and we think that President Xi is thinking about the world in a new way; A commendable initiative.

In response to a question about military purchases and sales, the foreign secretary said, “We have a bilateral relationship with China in the field of military affairs. Whether to buy or sell in this trip, it seems that they are not discussed at the leadership level. Of course we will discuss the bilateral military cooperation.

In response to a question regarding investment, Asad Alam Siam said that the Prime Minister will meet various private sector leaders of the country during his visit to China. Investment Forum will be. We want Chinese investment in Bangladesh.

 

According to the tour schedule, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will arrive in China on a five-day visit from Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, on Monday night. The Prime Minister will spend the whole day on June 23 and till lunch on June 24 in Dalian. He will be there to attend the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) known as ‘Summer Davos’. World Economic Forum President and CEO Alois Zuinzi will pay a courtesy call on the Prime Minister on June 23.

In the afternoon, he will participate in a panel discussion on climate change. In the evening, the Prime Minister will attend a dinner hosted by the Chinese Premier in honor of the Summer Davos guests. The next day i.e. June 24, he will attend the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum. He will leave Dalian for Beijing that afternoon.

The program of the Prime Minister’s visit to Beijing will begin on the morning of June 25 by participating in the Bangladesh Investment Forum. Later, top officials of China’s leading business organizations Cherry Group, Handa Group and Chinatax Corporation will meet the Prime Minister of Bangladesh separately. After that, CPC International Department Head Liu Hising, China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) Chairman Chen Xiaodong and Export Import Bank of China (China Exim Bank) Chairman Chen Huayu will meet with the Prime Minister.

Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will hold a bilateral meeting with Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang at the Great Hall of the People that afternoon. After the meeting, the agreement, memorandum of understanding and protocol will be signed in the presence of the two leaders. After that, Tarique Rahman will attend the Chinese Prime Minister’s dinner given in honor of Bangladesh Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister will begin the second day of his visit to Beijing by paying homage at the Monument of the People’s Heroes. Later, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People’s Congress Zhou Leji will pay a courtesy call on him at the Great Hall of the People. He will then meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

After the meeting, he will visit the Chinese Communist Party Museum. That afternoon the Prime Minister along with his entourage will travel from Beijing to Dhaka.
