Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan said that the poetry of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam inspires patriotism, humanity, love for nature and self-sacrifice in people.

He said, those who grew up reading Nazrul’s poetry in their childhood and adolescence, Nazrul has a deep influence on the formation of their psyche.

He said these things while addressing the chief guest at the 127th birth anniversary celebration of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam at National Theater Auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy today.

The Information Minister said, “I am sure, those who read Nazrul’s poetry in their youth, develop patriotism, human love, love for nature and inspiration to sacrifice their lives.”

The minister said that the extraordinary creativity that Nazrul has shown in his short career is rare in the history of the world.

The Information and Broadcasting Minister said, ‘A man can display so much talent in a career of just 21 or 22 years from adulthood — it’s truly amazing. He has left behind a wide range of works including poems, stories, novels, dramas and music, which are equally relevant even today.

He said that Nazrul’s literature and consciousness influenced not only individuals but also the collective consciousness of the nation.

He also said that Nazrul Chetna has a great contribution in all the great positive events that have happened in the history of our nation. Liberation war, language movement or the recent mass uprising – in all cases, the courage to stand against injustice, the mindset of self-sacrifice, Nazrul’s presence in the society and psyche can be felt behind it.

Zahir Uddin Swapan said that the responsibility of the present generation is to convey the spirit of Nazrul to the new generation and convert it into the collective spirit of the nation.

He said, not all people will be Nazrul researchers, but as many people can be infused with his spirit, it will be a great asset for the nation.

He said, he wrote ghazals with one hand and composed kirtans and syama songs with the other hand. Somewhere he talks about love and spirituality, and somewhere else he brings out the spirit of war and struggle.

Ambassador Mushfiqul Fazal Ansari spoke as a special guest at the event chaired by Director General of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Sheikh Rezauddin Ahmed (Rezauddin Stalin).

Poet and writer Hasan Hafiz spoke as the main speaker in the event, Nazrul Sadhak and researcher Dr. Engineer Khalekuzzaman.
