TEHRAN (WSN24) – The Chief of the Pakistan Army, Field Marshal Asim Munir, is currently in Tehran leading a high-ranking political-security delegation to convey a message from the United States and to facilitate the upcoming round of discussions between Iran and the US

Munir’s delegation, which comprises representatives from the Foreign Ministry, security agencies, and technical specialists, arrived in the Iranian capital on Wednesday, as reported by Iranian media.

The aim of the visit is to convey a message from the United States to the Iranian leadership and to organize the next phase of negotiations.

The delegation is anticipated to meet with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi.

The presence of Pakistan’s senior military official highlights Islamabad’s increasing role as a crucial mediator between Tehran and Washington, according to Press TV.

Earlier on Wednesday, Esmail Baqaei, the spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, confirmed that Tehran would welcome a Pakistani delegation, noting that indirect communication between Iran and the United States is ongoing.

This diplomatic initiative occurs while a two-week ceasefire between Iran and the United States, facilitated by Pakistan, remains in place.

The delegation led by Munir is expected to deliberate on the framework for a potential second round of discussions between Tehran and Washington, with Islamabad likely serving as the venue. The initial round of talks in Islamabad did not yield an agreement over the weekend.

The ceasefire commenced following 40 days of conflict that began on February 28, when the United States and Israel initiated an unprovoked act of aggression against Iran.

This aggression involved the assassination of Iran’s then-Leader, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, along with attacks on nuclear facilities, educational institutions, hospitals, and civilian infrastructure.

In response, Iran’s armed forces executed 100 waves of retaliatory strikes under Operation True Promise 4, launching hundreds of ballistic and hypersonic missiles, as well as drones, targeting American military bases across West Asia and Israeli positions throughout the occupied territories.
