TEHRAN (WSN24) – The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, emphasized essential preconditions that need to be fulfilled prior to the initiation of forthcoming negotiations between Iran and the United States, which are being mediated by Pakistan

In a post shared on his X account on Friday, Qalibaf highlighted that two essential measures agreed upon by both parties remain unfulfilled: a ceasefire in Lebanon and the release of Iran’s frozen assets.

“Two of the measures mutually agreed upon between the parties have yet to be implemented: a ceasefire in Lebanon and the release of Iran’s blocked assets prior to the commencement of negotiations,” Qalibaf emphasized.

“These two matters must be fulfilled before negotiations begin,” stated the Iranian Parliament speaker.

Following the assassination of the then Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, along with several senior military commanders and civilians on February 28, the US and the Israeli regime initiated a large-scale unprovoked military campaign against Iran.

In response, the Iranian Armed Forces executed attacks on American and Israeli positions in the region, showcasing their ability to retaliate effectively. Contrary to the initial expectations of the attackers for a swift victory, the Iranian counteraction proved to be significantly more powerful, causing substantial damage to US and Israeli military assets while uniting the nation in resistance.

Although the US president had issued an ultimatum, mediation by Pakistan led to an agreement for a two-week ceasefire during which negotiations would occur in Islamabad. Iran has put forth a ten-point plan as the basis for discussions, advocating for terms such as the withdrawal of US forces from the region, the lifting of sanctions, and the establishment of control over the Strait of Hormuz.

On April 8, the Supreme National Security Council of Iran asserted that the aggression resulted in a historic victory for Iran, forcing the US to accept negotiation terms, which include a plan for guaranteed non-aggression and the cessation of hostilities.

Iran has made it clear that the negotiations would not signify the conclusion of the conflict but rather an expansion of the battlefield into diplomatic endeavors, maintaining a position of distrust towards the US.
